NYU Stern MBA Essay Analysis 2026-27
NYU Stern 的題目跟去年稍有不同，第一題是 career goal essay，要以500字的 short answer 形式回答，而著名的 Pick Six 創意題還是在，也是目前頂尖商學院中，少數還維持創意題的學校。
在申請的日期方面，Stern 今年依舊維持4個申請的 round（大部分商學院是3個 round ），R1申請截至日為 9月15日，R2 在10月15日，R3 則是明年的1月15日；對於其他大部分學校，我們會建議 R1 或 R2（通常是隔年一月）申請都行，但是對於 NYU Stern 這種隔年一月之前，有兩個截止日的學校，我們會建議申請者，儘量在前兩輪申請。而 NYU Stern 有另外兩個 MBA program，一個是 Fashion & Luxury MBA，一個是 Tech MBA，這幾年也受到不少學生青睞。
Essay#1 Professional Aspirations
(新題目) (500 word maximum, double-spaced, 12-point font)
- What are your short-term career goals? Why is the Stern MBA the necessary next chapter in your professional story? Please be specific.

Stern 前幾年只問短程職涯目標，今年請申請者回答短程的 career goal ＋ why Stern。
有趣的是，有些學校這幾年從把 essay 限制字數調低，有些今年又開始把字數調高，大家（申請者們）越來越會用 AI，為什麼學校想看更多字？大概是因為希望申請者，確認你的 goal essay 清楚的點出短程目標中的產業、職能 (function)、地（可以是美國或亞洲兩者都寫），以及更重要的是，解釋為什麼想要做這樣的工作，甚至如果適合，可以考慮點到長程目標的產業別，畢竟這樣的思考邏輯比較順，比較可以讓讀者 (Adcom) 理解。
假如你畢業後想做管顧業，而長期目標是科技公司的 CEO，你需要說明畢業後能在顧問業學習到什麼，像是針對不同產業研究趨勢、分析問題的方法、建立的人脈、幫客戶解決問題的方法，我有些更有想法的學生，會寫到自己的 role model （當然也小心，不要失焦開始講別人的故事），舉例是好的，例如說管顧業的批判性思考 (critical thinking) 能力，可以讓你未來當執行長時，對產業趨勢有敏感度，對事業有更全面的思維。(推薦閱讀：致任職於四大事務所的你：想轉職到投資銀行、財星500大企業，MBA可以這樣幫你！）
Why Stern 的一點，你可以利用 AI 幫你找資料，同時找適合自己的職涯選擇、符合自己的過去經驗的學校資源，當然，個人興趣也是可以提到的，MBA 各校總是希望聰明、努力以外，也是一個有趣的人來念，可以參考 Wharton 論文解析，想想怎麼寫這一篇。
Essay 2: Personal Expression(a.k.a. “Pick Six”)
(新題目)Introduce yourself to the Admissions Committee and to your future classmates using six images and corresponding captions. The Pick Six is a way to share more about the qualities you will bring to the Stern community, beyond your professional and academic achievements. Your uploaded PDF should contain all of the following elements:
- A brief introduction or overview of your “Pick Six” (no more than 3 sentences).
- Six images that help illustrate your interests, values, motivations, perspective and/or personality.
- A one-sentence caption for each of the six images that helps explain why they were selected and are significant to you.
Note: Your visuals may include photos, infographics, drawings, or any other images. Your document must be uploaded as a single PDF. The essay cannot be sent in physical form or be linked to a website.

這一題也和前幾年一樣，讓申請者選六張可以代表自己的照片、圖表、自己的畫、資訊圖表（infographic）。
今年的題目，與去年有些不同的地方，是學校明確指出，希望申請者用學業、工作以外的素材，我以往的學生，針對這題，我的確都是鼓勵大家多選擇個人興趣、學校社團、交換學生經驗、志工活動等來描述。另外一點小小的不同，是今年加了畫畫！喜歡藝術、自己有得意的畫畫作品、甚至純粹想用這個形式展現自己的申請者，可以考慮。
越來越多學校希望申請者告訴他們，希望未來班上同學怎麼認識自己，也就是幫助 Adcom 想像，有你在班上會帶來怎樣的加分，所以你可以想像這是一個 “what are you most proud of outside of work” + “contribution” 的題目。
你可以找過去做義工、課外活動、公司社團、商業競賽、個人興趣（運動、旅行等）的照片或整理的圖表/infographic，總之你可以選擇用不同的素材，描述自己各個面相，當然也有人只想講自己的一個經驗，所以用六張同一件經驗的所有素材，把某一個經驗講的深入一點，也是很好表達自己的方法。延伸閱讀：招生委員的評分六大關鍵 》錄取頂尖商學院的第一步，先了解招生委員都在想什麼）
現任 Stern Associate Dean of MBA Admissions 的 Isser Gallogly 曾表示，因為 Instagram 等社群軟體越來越普及，學校也希望響應這個趨勢，用圖像輔助文字，希望申請者可以在面試前，就栩栩如生地站在 Adcom 面前介紹自己，Gallogly 也說，以往因為有些申請者花太多時間在剪輯影片上，所以幾年前才將這個題目形式做了些變動，也是希望申請者不要因為題目太廣，而不敢申請 Stern。 越來越多學校，出創意的題目，畢竟文字題比較容易靠 AI 大量輔助。
我很喜歡和學生腦力激盪這種創意題，因為過程中會討論到學生不曾想到，卻非常適合這題的素材，（畢竟亞洲學生常常誤以為「還是要正經一點吧？」）而往往這樣腦力激盪，做出來的效果更好，過程中也更認識學校、認識自己！不管如何，發揮你的創意，但千萬記得，這還是一篇申請 MBA 的 essay，因此重點在於，讓學校更了解你有他們想尋找的特質，而不是單純地發揮創意。(延伸閱讀：不是一定要拯救世界，才能申請MBA！學習說個好故事，讓你脫穎而出)
2021年畢業，從台灣去 Stern 就讀的，剛好都是我的學生，我還記得這四個人的 Personal Expression 都截然不同；有人用照片表現她如何宣揚台灣土地人情，有人討論創業過程，有人寫各種社團活動及代表的個性⋯。所以我建議申請者不要過度在意「學校到底想看什麼？」這個問題，而是拿出自己最有特色的六個面向/活動，全力以赴！
Essay 3: Additional Information (optional)
(500 word maximum, double-spaced, 12-point font)
Please provide any additional information that you would like to bring to the attention of the Admissions Committee. This may include current or past gaps in employment, further explanation of your undergraduate record or self-reported academic transcript(s), plans to retake the GMAT, GRE, Executive Assessment, IELTS or TOEFL, or any other relevant information.
NYU Stern 在 optional essay 這題列出好幾個須知，清楚的表明誰才需要寫 optional essay，學校不希望申請者怕沒有多寫這篇，就好像沒有申請的誠意，而硬要擠出一篇，optional essay 是給真的有需要解釋的申請者寫的，例如題目提到的工作空檔、學校成績解釋等等，等於給申請者一個機會，解釋 Adcom 從履歷或 essay 上看到會感到疑惑的事情。
EQ Endorsements
Choosing Your Endorsers
- You are required to submit one EQ Endorsement with your application. A second EQ Endorsement is optional, but not required.
- Your EQ Endorsement must come from your current supervisor. If you cannot include an endorsement from your current supervisor, you must provide an explanation in the online application.
- Should you submit a second EQ Endorsement, it may come from someone who knows you professionally and/or personally.
- EQ Endorsements should come from individuals who can objectively assess your potential for success in NYU Stern’s MBA program and in your future career, and who can act as a persuasive advocate of your EQ strengths.
- Immediate family members should not write your EQ endorsement.
- Submitting more than two EQ endorsements is not encouraged but is allowed. Please carefully consider whether additional endorsements add significant value and a new and unique perspective to your application.
EQ Endorsement Questions
Your endorsers will be asked to rate you on a number of abilities and qualities, as well as provide an answer to these five questions:
- Please provide a brief description of your interaction with the applicant and, if applicable, the applicant’s role in your organization.
- How does the applicant’s performance compare to that of other well-qualified individuals in similar roles (if applicable)? Please provide specific examples. (E.g. what are the applicant’s principal strengths?)
- Describe the most important piece of constructive feedback you have given the applicant. Please detail the circumstances and the applicant’s response.
- IQ+EQ is a core value of NYU Stern, and we seek exceptional individuals who possess both intellectual and interpersonal strengths. Emotional intelligence (EQ) skills such as self-awareness, empathy, communication and self-management are at the core of our community of leaders. Please provide one specific and compelling example to demonstrate the applicant’s emotional intelligence.
- (Optional) Is there anything else we should know?
Your endorsers may answer these questions in the endorsement form or by uploading a Word or PDF document. EQ endorsements must be submitted online.
Stern 從幾年前開始，要求申請者找一個可以舉出申請者與 EQ 相關的事例，目前，Stern 還是頂尖商學院裡面唯一有出 EQ 推薦信問題的學校；近3年，Stern 改為只要繳交一封推薦信，學校指定找現任主管，舉例說明申請者有好的 EQ，我建議如果把 Stern 當成夢想學校的申請者，如果有好的推薦人人選（例如大老闆、常合作部門主管，願意幫忙），也可以繳交第二封 EQ 推薦信。
學校希望申請者不是只是一個好的領導者，同時也是可以在群體間有好的人緣、在團隊合作上可以發揮同理心的好同事、好老闆；當然，在 AI 的時代，人際關係、溝通能力，更無法被取代，也是歐美 MBA 為什麼還能相較其他學位，找得到歐美的高薪工作的原因（前15歐美商學院，平均年薪185K）。
我建議想要繳交第二封推薦信的申請者，可以找不同部門的主管來寫，舉一些跨部門合作的經驗，或者可以找志工組織，或者社團成員，描述沒有利益關係時，申請者是如何圓滑地解決問題，讓事情圓滿。（延伸閱讀：學校教授、公司總經理…想出國念書，千萬別找這4種人幫你寫推薦信）
